Global Fashion Students Blend History with Creativity

As part of their English integration learning, seniors in Chloe Perazzelli’s program are turning the copy paper boxes into colorful and quite fashionable displays depicting holidays of the past.

Voorheesville senior Laura Stampalia said the project has been fun.

“I like that at BOCES it is very hands-on and we do projects that allow us to express ourselves,” said the aspiring fashion merchandiser.

Students in the Global Fashion program study creative design and core business concepts and apply them to the world of fashion. They also learn about careers in fashion, merchandising, marketing, fashion drawing, textiles, how to use a sewing machine, foundation pattern making and sewing skills while taking part in work-based learning opportunities at area shopping malls to learn visual display and merchandising.

The aspiring fashion designer credited BOCES with challenging students to better themselves.

“BOCES has a lot more resources for building my fashion knowledge than I could have in a traditional school setting,” she said.
