Professional Staff Opportunities

Position: Science Teacher (Grades 7-12)   

The Voorheesville Central School District anticipates a permanent, full-time probationary position for a Science (Physics) Teacher beginning September 1, 2025 in the high school. This role will potentially include some engineering and technology coursework. Applicants with dual certifications are encouraged to apply. Salary and benefits for this position are as stated in the current teacher contract.

Position: Social Studies Teacher-Leave Replacement

The Voorheesville Central School District has an anticipated full-time long-term leave replacement position for a teacher at the Clayton A. Bouton High School. Salary and benefits for this position are as stated in the current teacher contract. The position begins April 21 and continues through June 30, 2027, (approximately.)

          Substitute Opportunities

          The Voorheesville Central School District employs substitute teachers through the Capital Region BOCES substitute registry. Download an application form from the Capital Region BOCES Web site.

          Applications for support staff substitutes (teacher aides, clerical staff, custodians, food service helper, school monitor, bus drivers, etc.) are accepted on an ongoing basis. Download a substitute staff application or call 518-765-3313, ext. 103.

          Current pay rates for substitute support staff positions are as follows: Most positions – including bus drivers, food service helpers, clerical workers, teacher aides, custodial workers, and bus monitors – Step 1 of UEV Schedule.  The nurse rate is $130/day.           Position: Food Service Worker

          The Voorheesville Central School District anticipates openings for food service workers for the 2025-26 school year. This position is 4 hours/day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The position will be under the supervision of the cafeteria manager. Applications will be accepted as they are received. Candidates will be promptly scheduled for an interview. 

          Qualifications:

          1. High school graduation is a plus.
          2. Food service experience is a plus.
          3. Must be able to take and follow directions.
          4. Must have a willingness to work the schedule that best suits the district’s needs.
          5. Requires physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
          6. Must have a good work record and recommendations.
          7. Background check and fingerprinting is required by law.

          Under the direction of a higher-level employee, the food service worker will perform a variety of activities related to the storage, preparations, and service of food. Duties may include but not limited to the following:

          • Wash food service equipment, including garbage cans and general kitchen cooking utensils, by hand and machine, using a variety of cleaning substances.
          • Wash storage areas, including food preparation areas, by hand and machine, using a variety of cleaning substances.
          • Store deliveries in appropriate areas.
          • Bring food and other supplies to preparation and serving areas as directed.
          • Clean fruits and vegetables, in preparation for cooking as directed.
          • Cook grill-type food such as hamburgers and eggs.
          • Serve food in the proper portions to students.
          • Ensure students on special diets receive proper food and portions.
          • Wash and sanitize dining room areas including chairs, tables and floors.
          • Various duties as assigned.

          SALARY: $17.58 – $20.70 hourly, per UEV contract

          Transportation

          Position: Bus Driver-Continuous Recruitment

          This posting is a continuous recruitment for school bus driver(s) beginning immediately. Drivers work routes for two in-district public schools, and provide transportation for district children going to private schools, to Special Education placements and for district field trips and athletic events on an as-needed basis. Training available for qualified candidates.

          Hours may vary: Generally from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.,Sept. – June

           Qualifications:

          1. High school graduation or possession of GED is required.
          2. Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsements is preferred. Training available for qualified candidates.
          3. Drivers with CDL Class B permit will be trained.
          4. Must have a neat appearance.
          5. There will be a background check, drug testing and fingerprinting (as required by law).
          6. Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.
          7. Must be reliable and able to work school attendance days.

          Supervisor will conduct a formal review of performance approximately four months after commencement of employment in this position.

          Position: Occasional Substitute Bus Dispatcher

          The duties of a Substitute School Bus Dispatcher include assisting in the daily office operational aspects of the school district’s bus fleet such as, answering calls, and communicating with transportation staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, or his/her designee.

          General Duties may include, but are not limited to:

          • Receives calls and messages pertaining to the operation of the school bus fleet by 2-way radio and telephone; logs and forwards calls as appropriate
          • Dispatches bus fleet and drivers/personnel by 2-way radio or telephone and logs calls as appropriate

            Position: Bus Monitor

            The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a bus monitor. Responsibilities include assisting and monitoring students. This person will work under the supervision of the bus driver and transportation supervisor. Person chosen for this position will be required to undergo training on a medical device and take the 10 hour training.

            STARTING DATE: Immediately
            SALARY: per UEV Contract 
            HOURS:  4 hours each day, (2 hours a.m., 2 hours p.m.)

            1. High school graduate
            2. Ability to pass 19A performance test
            3. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
            4. Ability to be flexible, resourceful, and work effectively with  children.

            Athletics Opportunities

            Position: Modified Baseball Coach

            This coaching position is at Clayton A. Bouton High School and Voorheesville Middle School. Experience as a coach in a public high school setting is preferred. All coaches report to the athletic director. Practices are typically held daily between 3-5:30 p.m. during the season and are coordinated by the athletic director. 

             Qualifications:

            1. Coaching credentials are required.
            2. Coaching CPR/First Aid and Concussion Management certifications are required.
            3. Fingerprint clearance is required.
            4. Requires physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

            Extracurricular Advisor Opportunities

            Position: Drama Club Advisor-Elementary School

            The elementary school drama club advisor is responsible for supervising the organization and production of the drama performance. The drama club will meet after school hours. Position to begin January 2025.  Compensation for the position will be per the appropriate step in the VTA Extracurricular Salary Scale. 

            Qualifications

            1. Professional theater experience is preferred.
            2. Educational background in theater/drama or the arts is preferred.
            3. Experience working with students is desired.
            4. Excellent credentials and references are required.
            5. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position is required.
            6. Fingerprint clearance (as required by law).

            The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for custodial workers. This position is 8 hours/day; Saturdays as needed. The duties of a custodial worker include routine cleaning, semi-skilled maintenance tasks, and related work as required.  The position will be under the supervision of the Custodial Work Supervisor II.
