Administrative Opportunities

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations

The VCSD Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations is responsible for the overall management of the district’s business functions, including financial planning, budgeting, purchasing, and the supervision of operations, maintenance, transportation, and food services.

Reporting directly to the VCSD Superintendent of Schools, this role requires collaboration with district administrators and maintains strong community relationships to ensure transparent and effective management of district resources. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Budget Management
  • Coordinates preparation of the budget and assists key administrators in review of the budget. 
  • Coordinates the presentation of, justification for, and preparation of additional analyses required to understand the budget proposal for action by the board.
  • Prepares analyses of program costs and methods of financing, including long-range projections of requirements.
  • Lead the preparation, documentation, and presentation of the district budget, working closely with administrators to review budget proposals and assess program costs.
  • Oversee budget publication and distribution as approved by the superintendent and board.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to communicate district financial needs and impacts.
  • Provide detailed budget proposals, justifications, and analyses for Board review and approval.
  • Monitor budget execution, implementing controls as necessary, and prepare long-range financial projections.
Purchasing and Procurement
  • Oversee purchasing of supplies and equipment through competitive bidding, quotations,and negotiations, ensuring cost-effective and compliant procurement practices.
  • Track price trends, market conditions, and new products to optimize district purchasing decisions.
  •  Prepare and manage bidding documents, requisitions, and inventory of district assets.
Financial Planning and Reporting
  • Prepare and submit state reports, performing audits and revisions as needed.
  • Manage financial records and compliance reporting for capital projects, ensuring voter- approved budgets are maintained.
  • Oversee district cash flow, initiating short-term and capital project borrowing processes as needed.
  • Provide financial projections and analyses for labor negotiations, supporting the superintendent and board, and negotiating with non-instructional staff as required.
  • Review monthly financial reports, including the treasurer’s report and budget status reports.
  • Monitor grants, federal, and state funding applications, and ensure timely compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Manage district investments, tax warrant preparation, and equalization processes to optimize tax allocations.
Non-Instructional Operations Management
  • Supervise operations, including maintenance, transportation, food services, and the business office, ensuring compliance with district and state regulations.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of personnel in non- instructional areas, ensuring compliance with Albany County Civil Service regulations.
  • Coordinate facility use by outside organizations, aligning appropriate staff resources.
Human Resources and Labor Relations
  • Address attendance, performance, and labor relations matters among non-instructional staff, coordinating with union representatives as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws and health and safety regulations, including risk management and record-keeping for hazardous materials.
  • Administer health and dental insurance programs for district employees, ensuring compliance with all benefit policies and regulations.
    Business Office Operations
    • Performs daily oversight of business office operations including accounting, accounts payable, payroll, insurance, human resources, etc  and recommends best practices for current operations to increase the functionality of operations.
    Miscellaneous Duties
    • Conduct studies and analyses as assigned by the superintendent.
    • Represent the district in relevant meetings and serve as a resource on financial matters at board of education meetings.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned by the superintendent.

    Qualifications:

    Educational Requirements
    • Master’s degree in educational administration, school business administration, public administration, finance, or a related field.
    • Certification as a School Business Administrator (SBA or SBL) or School District Leader (SDA or SDL) in New York State.
    Experience Requirements
    • Preferred progressive experience in educational administration, school finance, or a comparable setting, including budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation.
    • At least two years in management or supervisory experience overseeing operations, which can include but not be limited to maintenance, transportation, or food services within a school district or similar environment.
    Key Competencies and Skills
    • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, budget management, and strategic financial planning, with a thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and familiarity with financial software systems.
    • Knowledge of New York State education laws, Albany County Civil Service regulations, and federal and state health and safety standards.
    • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working collaboratively with a board of education, administrators, and community members.
    • Practical knowledge of non-instructional areas, including facilities management and labor relations.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Additional certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or Certified School Business Official (CSBO), are preferred but not required.
      • Evidence of ongoing professional development in school finance, leadership, or related areas.
      • Proficiency with financial management and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software commonly used in school districts.

            Position: Senior Keyboard Specialist and Teacher Aide

            The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a senior keyboard specialist and teacher aide. Position equals 6.5 hours of senior keyboard specialist duties and 1.5 hours of teacher aide per day. This is a ten-month position.

            Typical Work Activities:

            • Provides support for state and local assessments, including preparation work, pulling reports, and assisting on testing days.
            • Prepares correspondence, documents, records, and other written material in final or draft form using handwritten rough drafts, marked copy, oral recordings, or data from various equipment as source material.
            • Types and updates work, producing accurate, clean, and complete prepared copy.
            • Prepares, maintains, and updates electronic lists, documents, and district data.
            • Updates and stores department forms on a computer or word processor.
            • Prepares requisition orders.
            • Prepares mailings and distributes materials.
            • Maintains alphabetic, numeric, and/or chronological files of correspondence, documents, and materials by coding and filing new material, searching for requested material, and periodically purging obsolete material.
            • Schedules meetings and appointments.
            • Prepares and maintains district professional development records and federal grant reports. 

            Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

            • Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases at an acceptable rate of accuracy and speed.

            Position: High School Teaching Assistant

            The Voorheesville Central School District has a full-time, probationary teaching assistant position available at the secondary campus. The teaching assistant will work 1:1 with a special education student in the general education and special education classroom setting. The teaching assistant works closely with the classroom and special education teachers. This is a 10-month position. The salary is as noted in the current UEV contract.  

             Qualifications:

            1. Certification as a teaching assistant.
            2. Experience working effectively with high school students with a variety of disabilities and   special needs.
            3. Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices.
            4. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
            5. Excellent work habits and employment attendance history.

            General Duties

            1. Provide support and supervision to special education students while in the general education class.
            2. Assist classroom teacher, special education teacher and related service providers in the implementation of the student’s individual education plan.
            3. Monitor and assist students in all aspects of the school day.

              Transportation

              Position: Bus Driver-Continuous Recruitment

              This posting is a continuous recruitment for school bus driver(s) beginning immediately. Drivers work routes for two in-district public schools, and provide transportation for district children going to private schools, to Special Education placements and for district field trips and athletic events on an as-needed basis. Training available for qualified candidates.

              Hours may vary: Generally from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.,Sept. – June

               Qualifications:

              1. High school graduation or possession of GED is required.
              2. Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsements is preferred. Training available for qualified candidates.
              3. Drivers with CDL Class B permit will be trained.
              4. Must have a neat appearance.
              5. There will be a background check, drug testing and fingerprinting (as required by law).

              Position: Occasional Substitute Bus Dispatcher

              The duties of a Substitute School Bus Dispatcher include assisting in the daily office operational aspects of the school district’s bus fleet such as, answering calls, and communicating with transportation staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, or his/her designee.

              General Duties may include, but are not limited to:

              • Receives calls and messages pertaining to the operation of the school bus fleet by 2-way radio and telephone; logs and forwards calls as appropriate

                Position: Bus Monitor

                The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a bus monitor. Responsibilities include assisting and monitoring students. This person will work under the supervision of the bus driver and transportation supervisor. Person chosen for this position will be required to undergo training on a medical device and take the 10 hour training.

                STARTING DATE: Immediately

                Athletics Opportunities

                At various times throughout the year, Voorheesville Central School District will accept applications for coaching positions at Clayton A. Bouton High School and Voorheesville Middle School. Experience as a coach in a public high school setting is preferred.

                Seasonal practices are usually held daily between 3-5:30 p.m. Coaching credentials, including Coaching CPR/First Aid and Concussion Management, are required. Successful candidates must have physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. All coaches report to the Athletic Director.

                The salary for a coaching position is based on the current VTA contract and the applicant’s experience, as approved by the superintendent.

                The district is currently looking for a varsity bowling coach.

                Position: Custodial Worker

                The Voorheesville Central School District has an anticipated opening for a custodial worker. This position is eight hours per day, with Saturdays as needed. The duties of a custodial worker include routine cleaning, semi-skilled maintenance tasks, and related work as required. The position will be under the supervision of the Custodial Work Supervisor II. Salary and benefits are as stated in the UEV contract. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

                Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:

                • Sweeps, mops and waxes floors.
                • Washes walls, windows and blackboards.
                • Cleans and mops lavatories and locker rooms.
                • Assists with snow removal.
                • Replaces light bulbs, towels, toilet tissue, soap and other supplies.
                • Empties wastebaskets and disposes of rubbish.
                • Makes minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows and window shades, locks, faucets, heating system and other equipment.
                • Receives, moves and stores incoming school supplies.
                • Turns off lights and locks doors.
                • Performs a variety of errands and related custodial duties, as needed.

                Qualifications:

                1. High school graduation is a plus.
                2. Custodial experience is a plus.

                Position: Food Service Worker

                The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a food service worker. This position is 4 hours/day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The position will be under the supervision of the cafeteria manager. Applications will be accepted as they are received. Candidates will promptly be scheduled for an interview.

                Qualifications:

                2. Food service experience is a plus.

                Under the direction of a higher-level employee, the food service worker will perform a variety of activities related to the storage, preparations, and service of food. Duties may include but not limited to the following:

                • Wash food service equipment, including garbage cans and general kitchen cooking utensils, by hand and machine, using a variety of cleaning substances.
                • Wash storage areas, including food preparation areas, by hand and machine, using a variety of cleaning substances.
                • Store deliveries in appropriate areas.
                • Bring food and other supplies to preparation and serving areas as directed.
                • Clean fruits and vegetables, in preparation for cooking as directed.
                • Cook grill-type food such as hamburgers and eggs.
                • Serve food in the proper portions to students.
                • Ensure students on special diets receive proper food and portions.
                • Wash and sanitize dining room areas including chairs, tables and floors.
                • Various duties as assigned.

                SALARY: $17.58 – $20.70 hourly, per UEV contract
