Excessive Heat: Half-Day Schedule for Rest of Week

The National Weather Service has placed our area under a heat advisory effective for much of this upcoming week. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 90s with considerable humidity. The district has been monitoring the expected heatwave and been developing plans to ensure the safety of students and provide the optimum learning environment.

The elementary, middle, and high school have pockets of air conditioning, but it is not widespread throughout all buildings. Each building has heat protocol procedures to move individual classrooms when needed, but the anticipated stretch of excessive heat will result in considerable heat build up in our buildings each afternoon this week.

On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday our middle and elementary schools will follow half-day schedules. (School is closed on Wednesday for Juneteenth.) Middle school will dismiss at 10:30 a.m. and elementary school will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. Faculty will be available regular hours.

High school exams will proceed as scheduled. All exams have been moved to the gymnasium where we have placed air conditioning units to provide the most optimal setting for students.

We are aware that these changes may affect various end-of-the-year events. Building principals and teachers will be in contact about any changes.

Moving forward

We look forward to the completion of the previously approved construction project which will significantly increase access to air cooling in many parts of the elementary building.  In the meantime, we appreciate your support and understanding.
