Supporting Mental Wellness: Workshops for Parents, Faculty and Students

VCSD is proud to host the JCK Foundations for a number of workshops designed to support mental health in our school community. Special events are planned for parents and guardians, faculty members and students. The goal is to provide tools to engage in meaningful conversations and connect with mental health resources.

The principals of the middle and high schools say this community-wide approach will have a lasting impact.

“We’re bringing in the JCK Foundation to meet with our students, staff, and families because we believe in fostering resilience, empathy, and mental well-being in our school community,” said Clayton A. Bouton Principal LIsa Cardillo. “JCK’s message of hope and their tools for navigating challenges align perfectly with our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels supported and empowered.”

Middle School Principal Brianna Olson added that the social-emotional well-being of our students is the cornerstone of their learning. She said, “Partnering with organizations like JCK gives students valuable opportunities to strengthen their mental health and develop essential self-care skills. Equally important is equipping our staff and families with the resources needed to support our students effectively.”

Parents and Guardians

Parents and guardians are invited to attend a special workshop on Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the PAC to gain insight and confidence in navigating emerging mental health issues. Topics will include how to talk with your teen about mental health, signs to look for, and the role of social media in mental health wellness, among others. No pre-registration is required to attend.

Students

JCK Foundations will provide large group presentations tailored to middle school students, freshmen and sophomores, and juniors and seniors on Feb. 10. Additionally, grade 7-12 students will participate in small group lessons during physical education classes on Feb. 11 and 12.

Faculty

JCK will provide a presentation to faculty members on Feb. 10 with a focus on signs to look for, how to engage with students who may be struggling and how to foster an environment that encourages students to feel comfortable expressing their needs.

VCSD looks forward to providing these opportunities as we continue our mission to foster confident and responsible learners in a safe, inclusive environment.
