On Monday, March 14, Voorheesville schools will be featuring a districtwide College Day coordinated by our school counselors. Students are encouraged to wear gear or colors that represent a particular college. The purpose of this day is to get students thinking about their education journey.
Different activities are planned for each building, K-12. For example, activities and games with lessons about college – vocabulary words and trivia facts. Teachers will tell stories about where they attended college and explain the character traits that helped or would have helped throughout their experience. Selected seniors will visit the elementary school to speak with fourth and fifth graders about their high school experiences and their next milestone to transition to college.
Before next Monday, it would be great for families to talk with students about their experiences or ideas about college. Some fun thoughts to get you started could be: who in the family attended college – and why or why not? What message did the adults hear about college when they were younger, how has it changed? If you could do college over again in today’s world, what would you want to learn about? What are goals and interests to pursue in elementary and secondary school that could prepare you for life after high school?
