Voorheesville Elementary School is now in its second month of integrating the McGraw Hill reading and writing program, Wonders. This K-5 ELA program emphasizes the five pillars of the science of reading: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Text Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension.
As part of daily instruction, students are engaging in close reading, analytical writing, and reinforcing foundational skills. The program’s approach offers a diversity of texts and genres, along with differentiated resources and scaffolds to ensure an equitable learning experience for all.
As with all learning, lessons in the classroom are reinforced in the home. To help parents and guardians leverage the Wonders program to its fullest potential for their children, each month Principal Jeff Vivenzio will provide video tips. The first of these videos is now available.
VES anticipates continued growth and enrichment for all students as we continue exploring the Wonders program with students, parents and guardians.
